This page outlines what you will need to know for success in Mathematics this year. Please read this information carefully and be sure to share it with your parents. In order for our school year together to be successful, there are three very important items you should bring to class every day.
RESPECT RESPECT RESPECT
It is very important for us to have respect for one another. This includes respecting another person’s self, feelings, opinions and property. The Golden Rule is expected to be evident in our interactions. Please keep this in mind at all times.
Items to bring to class Every day bring 2 sharpened pencils, math workbook and your composition notebook to class. Also, at home please have a ruler (centimeters and inches) available. Your calculator will NOT be used in class every day. I will let you know in advance when you will need to bring it to class. Of course, you will need your “inquiring mind” every day!
Beginning of class daily * Place last night’s homework on your desk so I can check it and copy tonight’s homework into your agenda * Prepare any questions you have regarding the homework
During Class * Focus on classroom activities. * Take notes in the front of your agenda * Ask questions whenever you do not understand...if I don’t know you need help then I cannot provide it!
End of class daily * Please do not clean up until asked to do so * The teacher, not the bell, will dismiss the class * Clean up your personal area and take all belongings with you. Do not forget to check the floor!
Absences There is a lime green absentee folder on the shelf in our classroom. This folder contains the assignments for each day. Students will have two days for each day of absence to make up missing work. It is the responsibility of the student to track all missing assignments by checking this folder and to take any tests within the allotted time. Make up tests should be scheduled as soon as possible in order to remain on pace with the class. Students with specific questions regarding work status should always see me after class to discuss their concerns. I will be happy to supply late passes when discussions necessitate it.
Extra help If you need help, are confused about things or just want to schedule a little extra practice on Math concepts, please let me know. I am available to schedule extra help sessions usually on Tuesday afternoons every week. Remember to sign up during class the day before so I’ll expect you!
Finally, this class will be a challenging and successful one if you follow the expectations described above. I look forward to getting to know all of you and sharing this year together. Please come and see me if you are confused or have any questions about things. Looking forward to Mathematical fun, challenge and most importantly, success!
